Dobson, McClenathen conquer distance at Battle of the Blue Ridge

Mt. Airy, GA - While the entire Chestatee girls team finished just 4 points out of 2nd place against some tough competition from White, Lumpkin, and Union Counties, one thing was definite...Chestatee was queen of the distance races behind two first place finishes from Freshman Emma Dobson in the 1600m (5:25.63) and 3200m (11:30.83) races and topped off with a first place finish from Freshman Bella McClenathen in the 800m race (2:41.15).  The Battle of the Blue Ridge at Habersham Central marks McClenathen's first career victory in the 800m and adds onto Dobson's tally for the season.

In addition to their efforts, junior Leilani Moreno finished 6th in the 800m (2:55.06) with her first sub-3 minute time of her career and senior Kayleigh McBride finished with a 4th place finish and PR in the 3200m race (12:36.55).  Junior Vanessa Valdez finished 9th in the 3200m (14:54.33) and freshmen Alexa Rodriguez and Allison Ramos finished 14th (7:00.23) and 17th (7:32.94), respectively, in the 1600m.  The girls 4x800m relay team was without junior Crystal Vaca for the night, so Bella McClenathen, Ximena Garcia, Alexa Rodriguez, and Vanessa Valdez carried the baton to a 5th place finish with a time of 13:46.99.

The girls team finished with 88 points, 42 of those coming from the distance squad.

For the boys, freshman Brayden Keller had a 3:05.43 for a 16th place finish in the 800m and a PR of 6:39.15 in the 1600m race in which he crossed in 26th.  Freshman Miguel Valdez finished in 24th with a 6:11.37 in the 1600m race and a PR of 13:31.17 in the 3200m race where he crossed the finish line in 13th place.

Next the War Eagles will travel to Lambert High in Suwanee on March 18th.
