Freshman Emma Dobson sweeps 'distance' at Parkview
LILBURN, GA - It was a warm afternoon that quickly turned into a chilly night at Parkview's Need For Speed 17 meet and there were PRs all around for Chestatee...mainly due to the "strange" distances of some of the races. In American High School track, we usually see "standard" distances of 800m, 1600m, and 3200m...but it is not very often that we see entries for 60m, 300m, 1200m, and 1500m distances.
So this lead to some of our faster runners being left "unseeded"...and their competitors left "shellshocked" when an unseeded freshman Emma Dobson led the Chestatee distance team with two first place finishes in the 1200m and 1500m distances, her first official high school track victories of her career. Emma's 1500m time of 5:10.78 breaks an unofficial school record for that distance that was previously held by Kelsey Neukum that had stayed untouched since 2009. Emma's 1200m time of 4:02.50 also set the mark for an unofficial school record as that is the first time a Chestatee athlete has run that distance.
Senior Kayleigh McBride finished 7th in the 1200m with a PR of 4:23.89 and PR of 5:37.46 to give her 5th place in the 1500m. Junior Vanessa Valdez finished in 15th in the 1200m with a PR of 4:54.60 and junior Leilani Moreno finished in 9th in the 1500m with a PR of 5:57.59. Junior Crystal Vaca sets the school mark in the 300m distance with a PR of 50.21.
Freshman Bella McClenathen held on for a 12th place finish in the 800m with a PR of 2:45.91 and freshmen Alexa Rodriguez (3:14.83) and Allison Ramos (3:17.60) also finished that race with PRs finishing 32nd and 33rd, respectively.
On the boys side, freshman Andrew Laborde led the War Eagles in the 800m with a 2:39.27 to finish 32nd overall. Fellow freshmen Brayden Keller (2:52.22) and Miguel Valdez (2:52.69, PR) were right behind finishing in 33rd and 34th, respectively. Laborde also finished the 1200m with a PR of 4:10.68 (27th) and Valdez finished with a PR of 4:16.38 (29th). Both Laborde and Valdez also ran in the 1500m, but their times were not listed in the meets final results.
For team results, the girls distance team added 26 points to the team total of 58.5 and was good enough for a 4th place finish overall in the standings of 13 teams that scored. The boys team struggled and finished last in 13th place.
